Zenith 6-V-27 (1936)
(wood tube tombstone radio w/SW)

Zenith 6-V-27 (1936)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

"Off the grid" was not a choice for a lot of folks in 1936. GM would still sell you a Cadillac, but most radio companies only offered a VW Beetle. Not Zenith, though. Witness this stunning 6V27 Tombstone! The cabinet is huge, ornate and gorgeous. The six-tube chassis featured a dedicated RF amp and push-pull output. Three bands, with a geared, two-dial tuning mechanism and the classic, brightly lit Zenith black dial. I gave it a nice slick finish with 15 coats of lacquer and three sanding operations. A few blemishes remain from 87 years of service. The original 8-inch armature style speaker was not much punkin.' I replaced it with an awesome 8-inch Zenith PM speaker from my stash. Two very small repairs. The sound is just awesome! Receiver sensitivity is better than most AC sets. I replaced the mechanical vibrator with a reliable solid state type. I built an AC supply, with a switch so you can use original 6V battery or AC. I'm never sure what a buyer likes, so I left the escutcheon alone. I can restore it if you want, but they never look original afterward. You will be hard pressed to find a better example of this Cadillac of farm radios. Requires an external antenna. 23"W x 17"W x 12"D.
