The Volkswagen Beetle of the mid 1930s was the four-tube TRF. This little 101 is an example of this radio type. Many manufacturers produced versions of this chassis. Radiette hailed from Chicago, but Riders also lists several "Radiette" models made by Keller-Fuller of Los Angeles. The cabinet is nice, with a few dings and flaws, but presents fairly well. The very simple four-tube TRF chassis is minimally designed and as a result is not a great performer. It has a bit of residual hum that I could not filter out. That said, it picked up most of my local stations fairly well. The sound is pretty good from the perfect 5-inch speaker. The knobs are not original, but resemble them reasonably well. No idea the value of this set, so I'm pricing it pretty low. Sure hope there is a Radiette collector out there to give this baby a good home. Requires an external antenna. 12"W x 8"H x 6"D. |
