(wood tube table radio)

Truetone D2211 (1942)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Truetone was a brand name of Western Auto Supply, formed in 1909 by George Pepperdine, who later founded Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. He eventually sold the business in 1939, and the company continued to prosper. At one point they had 1,200 stores, plus 600 "associate" stores which were the first "franchise" operations in America. The D2211 is a five-tube, AM only AC/DC radio. A big feature is the large, colorful backlit dial the lights up the "Truetone" badge in the center. Blake replaced all of the capacitors. Checked tubes and resistors, replacing where necessary. He installed a new power cord and an audio cable. The radio performs well across the dial utilizing an internal loop antenna. Gary stripped and refinished the walnut cabinet to a gorgeous luster. It retains its Bakelite knobs and bezel. This radio will provide years of listening enjoyment and is priced right. 12"W x 7"H x 6"D.
