THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Celebrities were often used to advertise radio companies' products, and Philco was no exception. Certain products were nick-named by the artist that promoted them. The Grunow 1291 console was dubbed the "Shirley Temple" as she would advertise her newest movie posing with the radio. The afore-mentioned Philco was dubbed the "Bing Crosby." Frank Sinatra, Hedy LaMar and Susan Hayward advertised with GE. Tony Martin with RCA, and the list goes on. The 46-2101 was a five-tube, AM-only radio/phonograph. A door in the front drops open and a phonograph inside plays 10- and 12-inch 78rpm records automatically when the door is closed, and shuts off automatically when the record ends. Blake went through the radio replacing all of the capacitors. Tubes and resistors were checked and replaced where needed. He installed a new power cord. Gary touched up the decal "faux" finish and painted the sides. This is a very nice, fully functional "Bing Crosby." A very uniquely designed radio/phonograph for 1946! 16"W x 11-1/2"H x 14-3/4"D.
