Zenith 9-S-232 "Walton" Tombstone (1938)
(wood tube tombstone radio w/SW)

Zenith 9-S-232 "Walton" Tombstone (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

I have an ongoing discussion with my radio friends on what was Zenith's best year. You could say 1937 because of the electronic innovations and great cabinet designs, or 1938 which produced the Walton series and the new "Robot or Shutterdial" radios with motor-drive and the inclusion of a tuning eye tube. Today we have the ultra-iconic Walton nine-tube, three-band (SB,SWx2) radio. This is a complete and correct "matching numbers" 9-S-232 with the right speaker. The speaker alone can bring several hundred dollars. Blake went into the chassis replacing all of the capacitors. He checked the tolerance of the resistors and replaced where needed, doing the same with the tubes. He put in a new, bright and active tuning eye tube. A new power cord, safety fuse and audio cable were installed. Gary stripped and refinished the Walton, stating it was "the nicest one he's ever done." The original wooden knobs were retained, and a nice, correct "Zenith Swirl" reproduction grille cloth was installed. This is a "like-new" Walton as you would have seen them on the showroom floor. One word covers it...fantastic! 24"H x 17"W x 12-1/2"D.
