Stewart-Warner R-146A (1936)
(wood tube table radio w/SW)

Stewart-Warner R-146A (1936)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Stewart-Warner began manufacturing speedometers in Chicago starting in 1912. In 1925, they started producing radios. They eventually produced 1,000 sets a day, and soon over-production slowed sales. The company was always stable however, due to huge profits from the automotive parts division. The R-146 is a seven-tube, three-band (SB,SWx2) with a precision, fine-tuning selector on a three-color, reverse-painted dial. Blake replaced all of the capacitors with modern equivalents. The resistors and tubes were checked for tolerance and replaced where necessary. He installed a safety fuse, a new power cord and an external input cable. The radio has a lot of volume and great tone! Gary stripped and refinished the cabinet, producing a gorgeous, hand-rubbed "piano" lacquer finish. The radio has the original speaker, knobs and the "Craft-built" cabinet badge! 19"W x 12"H x 11-1/2"D.
