A lot of people think that the PT-44 developed in 1940 for the 1941 model line had a cabinet that was designed by Ingraham. In reality, the radio was designed in house to show that Philco could design and manufacture an Ingraham-quality cabinet. It competed well against the Emerson, Firestone, and many other companies using Ingraham cabinets. The AC/DC five-tube, broadcast only radio is really a gorgeous cabinet utilizing bookend walnut veneers and lacquer finishes. Joe went through this radio replacing all of the capacitors, out-of-tolerance resistors, checked tubes and replaced if needed. A lot of bad rubber wire was replaced, and a new power cord installed. Also added was a new dial cover and grille cloth. The knobs are original. The back of this radio is truly unique, made of walnut with a lyre cutout. Gary did a great refinish, copying the factory lacquer finish to a tee. These radios don't come up for sale very often as they are tucked away in a lot of personal collections. 12"W x 7"H x 6-1/2"D. |
