Firestone Air Chief S-7402-4 "the Reporter" (1939)
(Bakelite tube table radio)

Firestone Air Chief S-7402-4 "the Reporter" (1939)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

It’s not too often we have the good fortune to know the ownership history of the radios we collect; however, this little Air Chief is quite the exception. Upon graduating from high school, this Firestone was a gift to a lovely lady as a present from her parents. Marrying in 1941, she took the radio with her, moving to Ohio where she remained after WWII. Then her husband worked for the military overseas, living in Germany, Switzerland, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, Panama and then back to Washington DC in 1968. Retiring to Florida in 1977, her prized radio was carefully stored. Just a beautiful story! The Bakelite cabinet has been nicely polished and a small crack in the top left rear louver was professionally repaired. The electronics have been completely restored (no shortcut repairs, has a polarized line cord and it is internally fused for your safety), it plays very well, has an internal loop antenna, picks up lots of stations on the AM band and has plenty of volume. 8"W s 5-1/4"H x 4-1/2"D.
