Philco 53-561 "Special Services" (1953)
(plastic tube table radio w/SW)

Philco 53-561 "Special Services" (1953)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This is a rather unusual and not often seen model, as it has both the AM broadcast band and Shortwave band. With its convenient slide switch in the back, you can select either the AM band or the Shortwave band. At the time it was produced, the government's police, fire, aircraft, fishing services and other special dedicated military services used the frequencies between 1.7 megacycles and 3.4 megacycles, which this special receiver covers. Today, those frequencies are used mainly by amateur radio operators and shortwave stations. It a pretty interesting design concept and it is the first of its kind I've ever seen. I particularly like the beautiful colonial green cabinet, which resembles the color used to designate military and government equipment for the period. The chassis has been electrically restored and the cabinet has been highly polished. You'll really enjoy and prize this one! 10-3/4"W x 5-3/4"H x 6-1/2"D.
