THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
Although you may never have thought about it, most molded Bakelite radio cabinets have a similar shape, with an open back and lots of horizontal features to make mold separation possible. This model looks completely different, since it uses a two-piece Bakelite cabinet with vertical mold separation. Making the cabinet this way is a little more expensive, but gives the designer a lot more creative license. Because of its unique design, this model usually commands a price premium, but I've marked this one down because of a small crack visible on the back side (just to left of vents in picture). Although all cabinet components are original, it has a fresh coat of ivory paint on the main body and knobs, and new gold paint on the trim behind the knobs. Electronically, this radio has been fully restored and works like brand new, with new capacitors, a strong set of tubes, a new IF transformer, and a full RF/IF alignment. Safety has been upgraded with a new polarized power cord and modified switch wiring to minimize shock hazard. Although this Philco was made in Canada, it is practically identical to the U.S. Philco model 53-566. Along with broadcast band coverage, it has a short wave band with a lever switch on the bottom right of the cabinet. Lighted dial. 13-3/4"W x 7-1/2"H x 10-1/2"D. |
