Philco 70B (1931)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Philco 70B (1931)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This is indeed the most famous of all cathedral radio cabinet designs -- the first one that comes to mind when thinking about classic antique radios. Designed by Edward Combs and used on a few different Philco models in the early 1930s, it sold very well and launched a new style that was widely emulated. This is the early version of the model 70 without AVC. The date "Jul 14 1931" is clearly stamped on the bottom of the cabinet (picture upon request). A nice bonus with this radio is the original instruction sheet and warranty booklet are included. Knobs and dial are original; grille cloth is reproduction. The cabinet has been refinished to restore its original appearance. As with every radio I sell, the chassis has been meticulously restored to like-new performance, with all new capacitors, new resistors where needed, a strong set of tubes, and a precise IF/RF alignment. A new vintage-style cord has been installed, and a fuse added inside for improved safety. The original speaker is perfect. 18"H x 16-1/2"W x 10-3/4"D.
