Philco 46-420 "Hippo" (1946)
(Bakelite tube table radio w/Aux or BT)

Philco 46-420 "Hippo" (1946)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The Philco "Hippo" has long been popular with collectors because of its unique cabinet design. The Bakelite cabinet on this one has fresh ivory paint and a new Philco decal. The dial is slightly cloudy from age (surface has been polished, but this is deeper in the clear plastic material). The back has been reinforced to overcome its original design flaw (too thin of back material for use with compression clips to hold it on). Looks good overall. The six-tube chassis (with extra RF gain stage) is an excellent performer with terrific sensitivity and good sound quality. Electrical restoration included replacement of capacitors, new resistors where needed, a strong set of tubes, a full RF/IF alignment, and installation of a modern polarized power cord with hot-side power switch wiring for improved safety. Lighted dial. 12"W x 7-1/2"H x 6-3/4"D.
