Atwater Kent 80 Cathedral (1931)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Atwater Kent 80 Cathedral (1931)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Atwater Kent cathedrals are among the most attractive and sought-after radios. The cabinet design of this one is simply gorgeous, with its twisting carved pilasters supporting an arch with diagonal grained Zebrawood veneer. The sides and top are walnut veneered, so this radio looks great from any angle. The cabinet has been refinished to bring out the best in the veneer patterns. Knobs, escutcheon, dial, grille cloth, and speaker are all original. The six-tube superheterodyne chassis has superb sensitivity and selectivity, but like most radios before 1932, it has no AVC. Radios without AVC have a different tuning feel and sound character, and it's a nice experience to see how these earlier radios operated. As with all radios I sell, the chassis has had a full electrical restoration and works perfectly. All paper and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, and a replacement vintage volume control has been installed. A full RF/IF alignment has been done, and it has a new vintage-style power cord (with original plug). A fuse has been added for improved safety. The nickel plated chassis is very clean. This radio has a lighted dial and a tone control. 19"H x 16"W x 10"D.
