Zenith L505 Portable with Wave-Magnet (1953)
(plastic tube portable radio)

Zenith L505 Portable with Wave-Magnet (1953)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The detachable "Wave-Magnet" antenna makes this maroon Zenith portable from 1953 a distinctive addition to your collection. The five tube (plus rectifier) chassis has an RF amplifier stage for outstanding sensitivity, and the fact that the Wave-Magnet can be oriented as desired or stuck with suction cups on a window if indoors really brings in the stations. The original power cord is in good shape, and retracts into the cabinet with a spring-loaded reel when not in use. The original type of battery used in this radio is no longer available, but if there is a desire to operate it by battery, I can provide a custom battery pack at additional charge. This radio has had a complete electrical restoration with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced, the selenium rectifier replaced with a silicon diode, cleaning of the cord reel contacts, a strong set of tubes, and a complete alignment for best performance. The plastic cabinet has a good shine, and is free of cracks and chips, with just some light wear marks here and there. The perforated aluminum speaker grille is clean and free of scratches, with only a few very faint depressions. 12"W x 9"H x 5"D.
