THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This Philco 70B cathedral has the iconic cabinet design by Edward Combs -- perhaps the best recognized antique radio cabinet ever produced, and one of the most sought-after radios for collectors today. The cabinet of this one has been carefully restored and displays very nicely, although a trained eye in a closeup examination will catch some cracks and imperfections in the veneer and molding. This is the walnut version of the cabinet, generally darker than other versions (and perhaps a little darker than it appears in these pictures). Grille cloth, escutcheon, and knobs are original; the dial scale is a reproduction. The chassis, an early superheterodyne with seven tubes, has been thoroughly restored from an electrical standpoint; it has very good sensitivity and overall works as well as it did when this radio was new. This is the early version of the 70B without automatic volume control. A great radio, both for looks and sound! 17-3/4"H x 16-1/2"W x 10-1/2"D. |
