THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
1939 produced some of the most outstanding radio case designs, but none better than this Zenith tabletop set, which is an icon of the Art Deco period. It was designed by Robert Budlong, one of Zenith's most prolific radio engineers of the 1930's. This beautiful completely original Bakelite set, with its streamline shape was described as Franciscan Brown color and originally sold for $14.95. The case is in excellent condition, with no cosmetic issues, and retains a great deal of its original showroom shine and patina. The chassis was checked completely by a pro, and the radio is playing clearly, picking up all my local AM stations. This Zenith has the rarer beautiful darker Deco dial, and the dial lamp works well, really lighting it up. It also has a perfect replacement back on the set, styled as the original with labels. This model was a movie star! It appeared with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland in "Strike Up the Band" (1940), and also Rooney and Freddie Bartholomew again in "A Yank at Eton" (1942). Now who wouldn't want to own a radio that starred with Judy Garland! About 10-1/2"W x 6-1/2"H x 7"D. |
