Zenith 5-G-403 (1940)
(wood tube portable radio)

Zenith 5-G-403 (1940)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Pre-WWII 1940 Art Deco Zenith portable in really nice original condition. The chassis has been restored, everything needing replacing was replaced, tubes checked, and the radio is playing fine on AC, picking up all my local AM stations clearly. The set is powered by batteries and AC. I have not tested the radio on batteries, which are expensive. The photo finish strips on the top front of the case and bottom corners, which are usually in bad shape are in excellent condition. It has its original Zenith ā€œZā€ knobs and handle. Even the decorative screwS are original. It also has its original red Wave Magnet antenna inside the case. There are two jacks for headphones on the upper right front of the case, but I have no idea if you can find headphones from 80+ years ago. Just finding this model is hard enough! This was the very first Zenith Walkman, but with the radio weighing it at about 12 pounds, it would have been quite a load to walk around with in 1940! This radio probably went on many picnics when people were listening to the growing threat in Europe. Too familiar in today's world! A great part of Zenith history, very seldom seen. About 12"W x 10"H x 7"D.
