Philco 53-561 "Transitone" (1953)
(plastic tube table radio)

Philco 53-561 "Transitone" (1953)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This Retro mod colored Philco Transitone from the summer of 1952 was the first of several five-tube table model sets they released in their 1953 line-up. This great color was called Colonial Green. The radio has been totally restored inside and out, and is in excellent, near mint condition. There were no breaks or cracks before restoration. The chassis picks up local stations loud and clear across the AM Broadcast band. It retains its original knobs, dial and back panel. The dial face references a "Special Services" band accessed by a switch in the back panel, once used to pick up police, fire, aircraft, and ships at sea. There's not anything to pick up on that band today, but back in 1953 Philco touted it as "Hear the Real Life Drama of Land, Sea and Air." A great part of American radio history. It originally sold for $30.95, equal to about $310 in 2021! About 10-1/2"W x 6"H x 5-1/2"D.
