RCA model 96X-1 from 1939 in an extreme Machine Age cabinet designed by John Vassos. Vassos was one of the greatest American industrial designers, and his design contributions to RCA spanned over 40 years. Click here to know more about is career with RCA. This Vassos designed Art Deco RCA is a great example of his work. It's a step down case with a rounded corner, and an innovative beautifully lit dial that is part of a roller as you turn the dial knob. His work is included in the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art. This radio has both AM and SW bands, the AM band picks up my local stations clearly, but I'm pretty sure the SW band is the old Dick Tracy Police Band. The case is in really nice condition, no cosmetic issues like cracks, hairline cracks or chips. The set has its original knobs and a perfect replacement back by FYLP. These Vassos sets very seldom come up for sale, especially in this condition. About 10-1/2"W x 7-1/2"H x 7-1/2"D. |
