THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
Here is a Zenith that you seldom see. It's a prewar 1940 completely restored model 6-D-425, a cousin of the 6-D-413 Bakelite line. The inverted chassis, which loads from the bottom, has six tubes, five plus a ballast tube. Unlike the Bakelite models, this model is completely walnut encased, and has a beautiful escutcheon with the Zenith name at the top. The case has had a professional refinish with a striking photo finish highlight as it looked on the Zenith dealer's shelf. This radio is part of Zenith's foray into the molded Bakelite chassis process, which is described in John Bryant's book "Zenith, the Glory Years." The radio was shown in the Zenith 1940 catalog as having a four inch speaker, and the price was $24.95. The chassis has been gone over by a professional, and everything needing changed was changed out, including a new safe cord. The radio is playing well, picking up all my local AM stations. It really has a beautiful lit up dial. About 11"W x 7"H x 6-1/2"D. |
