THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
Airline was the store brand for radios sold by Montgomery Ward department stores. These radios were manufactured by different companies, many by Wells-Gardner. The ebony Bakelite cabinet on this 1937/1938 radio is in excellent condition, and the molded leaf decorative trim on the top of the case really gives it a 1930's Art Deco look. There are no cosmetic issues like chips or cracks, rare for a set this large. It's a five-tube AM radio with a power transformer and a sixth green 6U5 eye tube, which is bright, strong and works exactly like it should. The grille cloth is original, along with the knobs. The set has a new cord for safety. It plays well, picking up my local AM stations without any filter hum, and pulls in distant stations at night with its antenna wire extended. Full label on the bottom. With its power transformer, this is a heavy radio, with a beautiful lit up dial. About 13"W x 8"H x 7"D. |
