THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This pre-War Machine Age Zenith is a very hard to find classic Deco radio, in a one-of-a-kind design. Legend is that it the only set Zenith ever tried to recall. The radio and case have been completely restored, and the radio is working and playing well, picking up all my local AM stations. According to John Bryant's anthology, "ZENITH, The Glory Years," the company's founder, Commander McDonald, became interested in the possibility of using Bakelite in molding radio chassis as well as the cases. A decision was made somewhere to use an inverted chassis, and problems soon abounded from owners and technicians due to the fragility of the Bakelite, as well as tube heat build-up in the case. An attempt was made to recall all sold and unsold radios, and legend has it that Zenith destroyed many of these sets. You are buying a part of the history of Zenith Radio when you buy this radio. About 8"W x 6"H x 5"D. |
