Zenith 5G617 (1942)
(plastic tube table radio)

Zenith 5G617 (1942)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

A great pre-War Zenith from 1942 that is very seldom seen. It's an AC & battery version of the Zenith model 6D615. It plays well on AC power; I have not tested it on battery power. The case is pretty much a duplicate of the 6D615 model, but without a handle. This set was designed by Robert Budlong, Zenith's most prolific radio designer. This Budlong design is known to collectors as the "Darth Vader" radio for obvious reasons. The case is in near mint condition, with no cracks, chips, or hairline blemishes. The butterscotch knobs and pushbuttons really give it instant appeal. A red indicator pops up on the dial when the radio is turned on. Zenith sold these sets to people who lived on farms where there was no electricity, and to people in metro areas where electricity was available. The Rural Electrification Act was only passed by Congress in 1936. It has a Retro-Tronics replacement back in place. About 12"W x 8"H x 7"D.
