THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
A really nice original example of this pre-War Zenith black dial boomerang designed by Robert Davol Budlong, one of Zenith's most prolific engineers. This set was one of the last production runs before the War and Zenith switched over to wartime operations. It was described in their brochure "as a Con-Sol Tone model in genuine hand rubbed walnut veneers. Six tubes, including rectifier, and two double purpose tubes, yielding eight tube operation.". The finish is original, and outside of a nick or two and a few minor scratches, is in excellent condition. The grille cloth is original, and it has a Retro-Tronics back, and nice butterscotch replacement knobs. Zenith made the knobs on several of these 1940-42 sets out of soybeans, and accordingly, they cooked when the shafts heated up! The radio has been completely gone over by a professional, and it plays very nicely with twin dial lights. About 13"W x 8-1/2"H x 7"D. |
