THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This GE is an imposing piece of Bakelite from 1938. All these late 1930's GE radios were manufactured out of beautiful swirled Bakelite material. This radio was produced when rumors of wars were swirling in Europe, hence there were both AM and SW bands so people could get the latest news from overseas. The radio has a power transformer in its chassis, making a very substantial set. The radio is playing & tuning in my local AM stations, but reception on both AM & SW bands is improved with a long antenna wire. The case is in excellent condition with a full Bakelite back just missing one small rib, I believe to allow the cord plug to be removed. Great lit dial, and the grille cloth and bullet knobs are also original. Priced at $30 in its first year of sale. About 13"W x 9"H x 8"D. |
