THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This pre-War Zenith is a very hard to find classic Deco radio, in a one-of-a-kind design. This radio is part of Zenith history, as according to legend, it was the only set Zenith ever tried to recall. First, the radio is working & playing well, picking up all my local AM stations. And second, the case is in excellent undamaged condition, no chips, cracks or hairline cracks. The legend, according to John Bryant's Zenith anthology, The Glory Years, is that the company's founder, Commander McDonald, became interested in the possibility of using Bakelite in molding radio chassis as well as the cases. A decision was made somewhere to use an inverted chassis, and problems soon abounded from owners and technicians due to the fragility of the Bakelite, as well as tube heat build-up in the case. An attempt was made to recall all sold and unsold radios, and legend has it that Zenith destroyed many of these sets. Hence, they are a hard radio to find, especially undamaged and working. You are buying a part of the history of Zenith Radio when you buy this radio. The chassis loads from the bottom. About 8"W x 6"H x 5"D.
