Here is a chance to own a true piece of radio history. This a very rare 1918 Carborundum Crystal radio. This rare radio came out of the estate of a very old collector. It was on display in his local museum. Carborundum crystals were discovered in 1906 and due to the high cost, were only used in high end radios of the day and situations were crystal stability was critical. Very few of examples of these radios have survived. The crystal is activated by the applying current to the crystal. It is much easier to use and more reliable than a cat whisker crystal. Included are a pair of American Telegraph & Telephone headphones that are dated Jan 23, 1918. Every radio collector should have at least one historical piece in their collection. This would be a great one to have. |
