Bulova M-601 (1932)
(wood tube tombstone radio)

Bulova M-601 (1932)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

These early Bulova radios are rare and beautiful sets. The clock face is a work of art in itself. They're extremely rare to find in any condition, but this one has been fully restored. I have enjoyed it for over 15 years. The escutcheon says "Bulova built like a watch." For 1932, this set had a remarkable feature. I believe it was the first clock radio that would turn itself on and off. The switch on the side will activate this feature. The clock is a spin start type and keeps good time. The clock still turns the radio on and off perfectly. The main design problem these sets had were the tuning capacitors. They were designed using pot metal. The few I have seen were frozen and not usable. I was able to find a 1931 GE chassis for parts that used the same style tuning capacitor and it looks factory in the radio. The only difference is that it tunes in reverse in relation to the dial. It was a small price to pay and now the radio works fine. A great conversation piece ready to display and enjoy. 19"H x 13-1/4"W x 9-1/4"D.
