Universal 424 Mini-Cathedral (1933)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Universal 424 Mini-Cathedral (1933)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

I offer a quantity discount on my radios, so check out my other listings and drop me a line if you're interested in more than one. If you're looking for an original Cathedral style radio from the 1930's, this 1933 Universal brand mini-Cathedral is a 90-year-old time capsule. The cabinet finish is all original! Nothing was refinished. Featuring wood knobs, a beautiful dial escutcheon with patina still present, and new exact reproduction pattern grille cloth. The chassis, made by the Climax Radio Corp (a model 424), has been totally recapped, and a new cloth line cord attached. It features just four tubes. An early TRF set so you need the long wire connected to an external antenna to receive stations. The antenna is connected directly to the volume control, so the louder you turn the volume, the stronger the stations come in. It takes both hands to tune as these early TRF's have no automatic volume control. Strong stations will blast! If you don't have a lot of room but still would like a cathedral, this set is just 13-3/4"H x 10"W x 8-3/4"D.
