Philco 20 "Baby Grand" (1931)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Philco 20 "Baby Grand" (1931)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The Philco model 20 Baby Grand is an historic radio, widely hailed as the first cathedral style radio produced. It was hugely popular, an instant success. Philco introduced this model in August of 1930 and continued to produce it until January of 1931 when it was replaced by the model 20 "revised," with a more deluxe cabinet. This is the deluxe version, with the cabinet having a date of February 1931 stamped on the bottom. It's been totally recapped (all capacitors and resistors replaced), open primary's rewound on two of the coils, tubes tested (the expensive 71A's could stand an upgrade but are working fine). It plays well across the dial with an antenna attached (needed to receive stations on early TRF sets). New cloth covered line cord, the chassis and tuner was cleaned and lubricated. The cabinet has been refinished and the grille cloth replaced. The usually hopelessly damaged or missing intricate grille lattice work was painstakingly reassembled. The knobs are correct original. 17-1/2"H x 16"W x 10"D.
