THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This Minerva brand radio is rather scarce and unique in its design. It uses a pre-war cabinet from a 1941 GE model L-641! Apparently GE had a surplus of these cabinets and sold them to Minerva after the war! It's a two band (AM & Shortwave) six-tube transformer-less set that plays well with its built in loop antenna (external antenna needs to be connected for short wave reception). All the paper and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, tubes tested good, new polarized line cord. Controls cleaned and lubricated for smooth operation. A challenging restoration as very little service info exists (took two days just to restring the dial!). Cabinet features the original finish that has been touched up. The faux woodgrain on the front sides and center is still in remarkable shape. New grille cloth and back cover. Original pinstriped knobs that Minerva may have got from RCA! If you like rare orphan brand radios, this is an especially classy one! 16"W x 10"H x 9-1/2"D. |
