General Electric H-639 (1939)
(wood tube table radio)

General Electric H-639 (1939)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Six-tube (+ ballast) AM radio with 78 rpm single play phonograph. Original ballast still functioning, voltages are where they should be. Chassis was completely recapped; all filter and paper caps including most micas. Nearly all resistors have been replaced. Strong set of tubes. Radio plays well with built in loop antenna. New polarized line cord. Turntable motor was cleaned & lubed, Idler wheel re-glued. New Pfanstiehl p-51-3 cartridge, turntable re-flocked. Cabinet refinished with toners, phono lid re-veneered. New grille cloth. Please examine photos closely and request more if needed. The unit is nice, but it is not a perfect/pristine example. Known flaws: badly pitted trim areas on escutcheon & tone arm, some veneer patching on a grille rib and just below speaker opening, phono lid is slightly warped & doesn't close perfectly flat, some wear/touch-up on the dial face, turntable has plenty of volume but is quieter than the radio, records have a slight quaver at the beginning that clears up as it plays (early type phono motor may be getting a bit weak for the heavy platter). Original back cover in nice condition. Small compact design. 16-1/4"H x 11-3/4"W x 9-3/4"H.
