Philco PT-55 "Transitone" (1940)
(Plaskon tube table radio)

Philco PT-55 "Transitone" (1940)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

I must admit that I never thought I'd sell this gem, but here it is - an extraordinarily rare radio from my "personal vault" in mint condition considered to be one of the most Art Deco radios ever manufactured by Philco. The cabinet is made of jet black Plaskon with what were originally a vibrant green Tenite plastic wrap-around grille, dial pointer, handle, and knobs (which since have oxidized over the past 83+ years and now are olive green/deep red in color). Cabinet and trim are free of any cracks, chips, hairlines, repairs, or warps. It retains its original bottom label, "Transitone" front decal, and power cord. In fact, this set is all-original including its flawless Plaskon back panel hiding the loop antenna. Its chassis has been restored with all electrolytics and weak tubes replaced. The radio is now a strong player, picking up all my local stations loud and clear across the entire AM dial. After more than 40 years of collecting, I can safely say that this set is an unbelievably example that you’re not likely to see again in your lifetime. Ready to display and play! Another great radio from my personal, smoke-free collection. About 9"W x 5-1/4"H x 5-7/8"D.
