Zenith 5-R-312 "Beehive" (1938)
(Bakelite tube table radio)

Zenith 5-R-312 "Beehive" (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Referred to as the "Beehive" for obvious reasons, this five-tube radio was introduced in the 2nd half of 1938 as part of Zenith's 1939 line-up. All moving parts including its tip-touch automatic tuning assembly have been cleaned and lubed, all caps and weak tubes have been replaced, and the cabinet and dial marker have been hand polished and detailed. The 5R312 uses a power transformer, which makes the radio very heavy. Unfortunately this has resulted in many of these sets sustaining cracked cases over time. But not this one! Its Bakelite case has no hairlines, cracks or chips. The dial, dial cover, knobs, and push-buttons are original, and the back panel is a correct replacement. Having just been completely restored inside and out, it is an excellent example of a radio classic and a real player that picks up my local stations across the entire AM dial loud and clear. Ready to display and play! Another great radio from my personal smoke-free collection. About 12-1/2"W x 7-1/2"H x 7"D.
