THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
Introduced in January 1946, model 46-420 was the very first in a series of Philco sets which collectors over the years have nicknamed the "Hippo" because the radio appears to look like a hippopotamus. One of 150,062 produced that year, the "Hippo" eventually became one of the more recognizable and popular designs from the 1940s. This radio is extremely well preserved. It has been electronically restored and picks up stations loud and clear across the dial without external antenna attachment. One of the best receivers I have owned. The Bakelite cabinet is all-original. Though there is hazing to the original dial cover, the dial lights up brightly and there are no missing numbers, dashes or hashmarks on the dial. The case retains its original sheen and is in mint condition with no cracks, hairlines or chips. Original knobs are securely attached. Original Philco logo on front is complete and the original bottom label is intact. Another great radio from my personal, smoke-free collection. About 12"W x 7-1/2"H x 7"D. |
