Wilcox-Gay A-46 (1937)
(wood tube table radio)

Wilcox-Gay A-46 (1937)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Wilcox-Gay began manufacturing in 1910 in Charlotte, MI, & this rare 1937 model A-46 is one of their creation. This is a five-tube strong playing radio on AM & has nice sensitivity. It plays very well all across the dial picking up all my locals & beyond. The SW band is the old police band which basically has no programing now except maybe pick up a ham operator in evening, but is working. Solid walnut wooden case with dark brown/black accents. Notice the matching detailed wire / metal centrifugal grilles (often missing) covering the beautiful backlit multi colored dial as well as the speaker grille cover area. Knobs, speaker, dial, dial cover, etc. all appear original with the era correct grille cloth appears new replacement (possibly original), but nice! Just simply a cool design unlike any other I can think of. It has that strong Art Deco flair for sure. I purchased it a few years ago from an old Radio/TV repairman friend who had restored inside/out and I have done nothing to it except feed the wood with Howard's oil & play occasionally. It is a "Star" of my smoke free collection, but time to let go. Ready for play/display...make it yours! 14"W x 7-1/2"H x 6-1/2"D.
