Here is a very nice "black dial" Zenith tombstone back-lit by two pilot lights. This is an excellent example of the American Art Deco era for the late 1930's. This is seldom seen tube radio model 5S228. It is one of the most distinctive looking radios produced by Zenith. The designer created a very simple wood cabinet, with rounded edges with artsy grille cutouts. The set has been electronically restored and picks up many stations across the dial with just a short wire antenna (included). It is a five-tube super-het which offers both AM and Shortwave. The grille cloth is original and in great shape. The cabinet was refinished by some owner in the past who did a very nice job using toners to keep the original look. Pointer and wood knobs feature the much desired Zenith lighting bolt logos. This is a very nice radio and would make a great gift or addition to any collection. 15-1/2"H x 10"W x 9-1/2"D.
