RCA 101 Tombstone (1933)
(wood tube tombstone radio)

RCA 101 Tombstone (1933)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is a neat old RCA 101 that you don't often see. I tried researching and couldn't find much on it other than a couple of vague mentions on a forum or two. It is unusual in many ways. First, the wood combination really gives it an unusual color contrast. I believe it to be yellow Maple (top + bottom quarter on front and sides). The rest appears to be Mahogany. Another anomaly is the size and shape (13"H x 11"W x 6-1/2"D). Additionally, it is only a four-tuber, kind of unusual for a tombstone of this vintage in my opinion. It has been restored and plays pretty well on a short wire antenna and better on longer antenna. I believe it to be original finish except possibly the very top has been re-done (nicely). Also not detracting, but need to mention some light scratches on right side but could not bring myself to strip as it is not that detracting to disturb since rest was original finish (Howard's oil covers). Looks great as is. Original knobs, grille cloth, dial, etc. Full factory sticker inside cab. Nice clear lighted dial as you can see.
