Airline 62-97 Tombstone (1934)
(wood tube tombstone radio)

Airline 62-97 Tombstone (1934)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This Airline "skyscraper" design was made for Montgomery Ward stores and sold under Airline name, but was actually manufactured by some other company, likely Wells-Gardner based on the style. Simply beautiful Art Deco Gothic tombstone with arched top and waterfall sides. Recently restored electronically and now plays with plenty of volume and sensitivity. This is a BC only seven-tuber, featuring new cloth cord. but all else is original. Very clean bronze chassis as you can see. Other bonuses include original grille cloth, original factory knobs, full factory paper tag inside cabinet, a Montgomery Ward warranty tag in great condition + a service tag dated "12/7/45" and an address and four-digit phone number. The cabinet has just so many design pluses like the front walnut burl panels on either side of the ornate "M" shaped walnut grille area. Notice how the side fluted panels match exactly the top "cap" panel. These touches really are eye catching in person. Probably the neatest part of this jewel is the "tracking" pilot light for dial indicator. I couldn't capture it very well (2nd pic), but it shows through the dial in a beam of blue/green light... very cool. 14-1/2"H x 13"W x 9"D.
