Atwater Kent 40
(metal tube casket radio)

Atwater Kent 40

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is a working model 40. All tubes are very strong, plays well with a long antenna, will get local stations on a 6 ft wire. It is box stock inside as far as I can tell. All tubes are RCA Radiotrons except the 71 (audio) is a Sylvania. I just cleaned out the dead bugs and brought it up on a Variac and let it play for about two hours. I noticed no overheating or issues. The case is dent free, but must have lived in a garage since there is paint splatter here and there. Patience with "Goof-Off" may clean it up, or leave it alone or refinish it. Of course you need a high impedance speaker to use it with like a AK model E, or a Crosley Musiccone, hi "Z" headphones, or what have you. I even used a matching transformer from 600 ohms to 8 ohms and drove a modern speaker. It has the original line cord and probably plug, very long and still flexible.
