This Bakelite set is an early AM/FM tabletop. Eight-tube performance and solid state rectifier. I cleaned it inside and out, all new 6BJ6 IF tubes, new 19T8, new NE51 lamp, new silicone rectifier, new electrolytic and paper caps, and about 1/2 of the resistors. Plays well, looks good. Tone control, volume, AM/FM switch and tuning. FM is quite good with a dipole and fair with built in antenna. The area around the lamp is discolored and roughened. I think the lens plastic and the Bakelite disagreed with each other. A little more work with Novus or a polish should take care of it. I think the design is very bold and stunning. |
