By modern standards, most portable radios of the vacuum-tube era would be considered ridiculously heavy. Trav-Ler did its best to lighten the load, with this compact four-tube, battery-only superheterodyne. This set ran on a 67.5-V "B" battery that is easily substituted by snapping together seven or eight of the 9-volt batteries that are ubiquitous today. One size-D alkaline flashlight cell is all that's needed as "A" battery (the holder provides for two in parallel, not a good idea). The loop antenna is concealed in the faux alligator covering of the wooden cabinet. Batteries not included. Only 7"W x 6-1/2"H x 4"D. |
