THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
Nice Philco 16B radio working. Most of these I have seen have cabinets in bad shape or refinished. This one has a rather good original cabinet. It has a couple shrinkage cracks on the sides and there is a dent in the top corner but all in all it is very presentable and much more authentic looking than refinished units. The radio works but has a pronounced hum. I installed a new silk covered power cord and the original plug. I was able to hear signals on all bands. Volume, tone and band selection controls all work. The radio has great volume with its eleven tubes and is famous for being one of the most sensitive tube receivers ever! I'd keep it but I already have one of my own. The speaker cone has a limited tear. I know of a good and reasonable reconing service. I consider the Philco 16B to one of the best looking and maybe the most sensitive of tombstone radios. They perform every bit as well as the Zenith 835! Priced to make the limited necessary restoration work worthwhile. |
