THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This stunning Deforest-Crosley "Drake" was manufactured in Canada under license to Hazeltine Company. I read somewhere that it was named for the shape of the cabinet, similar to the hat worn by Sir Francis Drake and others (that may be incorrect but it is a nice story). It is an absolutely awesome radio with Marquetry Inlays. The finish is original (as far as I can tell), and is a bit thin in places. If you have the time and skill it would refinish beautifully, as there are no veneer issues whatsoever (refinishing service available). It is very heavy (about 45 lbs) and works fine (broadcast band only) with a short wire antenna. This is a unique and magnificent radio, and would be a standout in your radio display. 20"W x 17"H x 10"D, shipping weight 52 pounds. |
