THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This one is in generally good condition, has replacement speaker and two non-original knobs. There are a couple of small veneer repairs, hardly visible, on left side near top and in front at top, and two slightly discolored spots on right side. Original grille cloth, no tears, and original cloth covered AC cord. This was a first of its kind style by a major manufacturer, introduced in late 1929, called the "Baby Grand" by Philco and was responsible for propelling Philco to number one in radios sold by the end of 1930, in the depths of the depression years. This style was called a "midget" during early years and was later called a "cathedral" among collectors and others. This set plays well, sounds good, but is not hi-fi. It requires an antenna; 10 to 20 feet of wire connected to its "antenna" terminal is sufficient for local reception of nearby stations, 20 miles or so. This radio, if pristine, would command twice my asking price. 27 pounds. 17-1/2"H x 16-1/2"W x 11"D. |
