General Electric E-101 Tombstone (1936)
(wood tube tombstone radio)

General Electric E-101 Tombstone (1936)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is a set that you never see. This monster tombstone has ten tubes and Colorama Tuning, which works a lot like a tuning eye. The dial lights up red when the station is coming in strong and the dial gets more green when the station is weak. This is a neat feature that I have not seen before, and the set's vernier tuning works unlike any other I have seen. It is beautiful, with its drum dial, massive cabinet and burly veneers; there is no doubt that this was a high end set. It has been restored electronically and cosmetically back to its original appearance. The chassis been recapped and all out of tolerance resistors have been replaced. The set plays loud and clear on all three bands. The cabinet has been refinished using original shades of stains and toners, and then finished in several coats of hand rubbed lacquer. This set is stunning, and this is the best example you will find, likely to be the only one you will find, as this set is fairly rare 20-1/2"H x 15-1/2"W x 11-1/2"D.
