THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
This is Zenith's first transistor radio, introduced in November 1955. It was an expensive item for the day at $75.00 (equal to $465 in 2012 dollars). These were offered in black or maroon cabinets. Some of the early maroon colored hand wired 500s were produced with a translucent material that you can actually see through under the right lighting conditions like this one. It is not known how many radios were made with this see-through cabinet, but they are a find for the collector and command a premium. This radio is a very early 7XT40 chassis and is all original serial #20,635. The radio plays perfectly and will bring a smile to your face. The cosmetics of this radio are amazing with only a hint of light scratching on the back. This unique offering includes the original operating guide, earphone, and leather case. To fully protect the finish of this radio when you are not showing it off, the rare early original felt bag is also included. All accessories are in very good condition. It will be a long time before you find another complete hand wired Royal 500 of this caliber. |
