Many hams used a version of the S-38 for their initial operation. Its performance is far below that of the modern solid state "rice boxes," but it does give results on the AM broadcast and shortwave AM and CW bands. The electronics have been restored to give reliable listening. The front panel has some touch-up paint spots; the sides and top of the cabinet have been repainted in a closely matching color. I installed a line isolation transformer for safety. This overcomes a potential shock hazard inherent with the AC/DC design and use of an external antenna. The power cord and plug have been replaced. Nice operating conversation and nostalgia piece for your home or office. |
