Channel Master (Sanyo Corporation) produced a line of primarily battery powered, portable table radios starting in the late 1950's. Although some did accept an AC adapter for line power, C.M. marketed these radios as "cordless" the 6511 was one of the first in this series. Although examples of this model still frequently come up for sale, locating one in condition this clean is another thing entirely. The beautiful, sage green plastic cabinet shows no cracks or damage, just some minor signs of wear from normal use and age. Considering this is an early radio with only six transistors, sound and reception are really quite notable. The radio plays nicely, with clear sound and plenty of volume. It has tone switch and jacks for earphone, external antenna, etc. Although in my opinion the best features of this set are the trapezoidal cabinet shape, the color and the atomic-age styling features. 12-1/2"W x 6-1/4"H x 5"D. |
