Atwater Kent 509W Console (1935)
(wood tube console radio w/SW)

Atwater Kent 509W Console (1935)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

In 1935 this AK was state of the art. The radio would turn on at a designated time and the motorized tuning would take it to the station of your choice. This is all done from what looks like a telephone switch board surrounding the clock. As you may guess these sets could be very fussy & AK had their share of problems with them. You don't see many today and this may very well be the most complete original. It retains the original finish, knobs and grille cloth. Even the warranty card which should have been mailed five days after purchase is still there. I've kept this set as original as possible. The clock has been cleaned, lubricated and keeps good time. The radio played for nearly 80 years with all the original capacitors. I recently just changed all the electrolytics; rubber coated wire was also replaced with cloth covered wire above chassis. The motorized tuning is still functional. Two of the cords you pull for setting the clock no longer retract on their own. The shadow tuning is responsive, plays well on AM & still receives SW. A museum quality radio that is offered in preserved unrestored condition.
